Calculating UV Dose for UV/AOP Reactors Using Dose/Log as a Water-Quality Metric

ثبت نشده
چکیده

A method for scale up of UV/AOP reactors is outlined that uses bench scale testing to determine the UV dose required per log destruction (DL) of a particular contaminant. This can then be used in CFD Modeling to size a full-scale UV reactor and to test the reactor in performance trials. Methods for calculating dose based on the path length distribution in a UV reactor are given.

Inactivation of adenovirus using low-dose UV/H2O2 advanced oxidation.

Adenovirus has consistently been observed to be the most resistant known pathogen to disinfection by ultraviolet light. This has had an impact on regulations set by the United States Environmental Protection Agency regarding the use of UV disinfection for virus inactivation in groundwater and surface water. In this study, enhancement of UV inactivation of adenovirus was evaluated when hydrogen ...

The use of an open channel, low pressure UV reactor for water treatment in low head recirculating aquaculture systems (LH-RAS)

This study examined the effectiveness of an open channel, low pressure (LP), ultraviolet (UV) reactor for water treatment in a low head (LH) recirculating aquaculture system (RAS). Currently available UV reactors use high pressure pumps and submerged bulbs. The reactor in this study makes use of the head gained by the water recirculation of the LH-RAS without the need for additional pumps, whil...

Action spectra for validation of pathogen disinfection in medium-pressure ultraviolet (UV) systems.

Ultraviolet (UV) reactors used for disinfecting water and wastewater must be validated and monitored over time. The validation process requires understanding the photochemical properties of the pathogens of concern and the challenge microorganisms used to represent them. Specifically for polychromatic UV systems, the organisms' dose responses to UV light and their sensitivity across the UV spec...

Bioassay and dose measurement in UV disinfection.

A bioassay method was developed to measure the average intensity within a UV disinfection reactor. The survival of spores of Bacillus subtilis was determined as a function of UV dose to prepare a standard curve. Spores were added to unknown systems, and the survival rate was used to determine the average intensity. A modification was used for flow-through reactors by which spores were injected ...

Challenge Organisms for Inactivation of Viruses by Ultraviolet Treatment

BACKGROUND: Ultraviolet reactors that are used for drinking water disinfection need to be tested to ensure they are delivering the required doses and achieving the desired level of pathogen inactivation to protect public health. Testing methods can use biological, chemical, or particle surrogates, although not all approaches have been approved for reactor validation. The non-pathogenic bacterio...
